James A. Holcombe (right) received his Ph.D. from the University of Mich igan in 1974. He then joined the facul ty at Austin and was Program Director for Chemical Analysis at NSF in 198485. His research interests include the study of fundamental processes occur ring during atomization and excita tion and the use of biological organ isms for ultratrace metal preconcentration and speciation. Oscar A. Guell received a B.S. degree from the University of Costa Rica in 1985 and is currently a Ph.D. student at the University of Texas at Austin. His research interests include incor poration of computational techniques such as Monte Carlo, nonlinear dy namics, and neural networks into ana lytical chemistry.
