Solvent extraction of color bodies from rosin, manufacture of resins, selective solvent refining of lube oils, abrasive wheel production, and solventpenetrant for carrying a host of substances into porous materials constitute the major applications for this aldehyde. The pure product boils at 161.7° C , has a gravity of 1.1598 (20/4) and a flash point of 58° C. The installation of new plant facilities now enable us to oiler commercial Furfural of exceedingly high quality. There are a number of indicated new applications for this aldehyde. Solvent refining of organic crudes, (to reduce color, impurities, or to separate various constituents, and the use of furfural to improve adhesion between aggregate and bitumen in road construction are typical examples of recent developments. Wetting effects and resin-forming reactions of its derivatives are receiving a share of attention.
