The Analytical Chemistry Virtual Issue Featuring our Advisory Boards

nce again I have the pleasure of introducing this year’s Editorial Advisory Board (EAB) and Features Panel virtual issue, which was created to highlight recent research from our current advisory team. Together this group has published over 200 papers in Analytical Chemistry since 2014. We selected one article each from most members, covering a variety of subfields of analytical chemistry: nanoscale electrochemistry, multiphoton spectroscopy, proteomics, sensors, droplet microfluidics, ion mobility mass spectrometry, to name just a few. I have written previously about the important role our advisors play, but it is worth reiterating how these outstanding scientists contribute to ensuring that Analytical Chemistry remains a premier journal in the field. These investigators (both established and junior) represent the journal in their respective scientific disciplines by lending us their reputations, expertise, thoughts, and their valuable time in support of our ongoing commitment to excellence. Their collective knowledge spans the diverse subfields of our analytical discipline, and a variety of sectorsacademic, industrial and governmentalfrom locations throughout the United States, Europe, and Asia. Although some of their responsibilities overlap, there are key differences between the two committees. The EAB provides essential feedback to the Editors from the perspective of the readers and authors, acts as a sounding board for journal policy changes, and they are asked to weigh in on a variety of reviewing issues. For example, last year they began helping us to arbitrate appeals on our editorial decisions. EAB members do not hesitate to remind me when we fall short on serving our readers, and I welcome their comments. The Features Panel serves a different advisory role. Their primary function is to suggest authors and topics for our invited Feature, Perspective, and Review articles. They are also asked to provide feedback on matters related to running the journal so that we remain responsive to our varied scientific communities. We solicit input from members of both committees when we consider changing author guidelines or decide which meetings journal representatives should attend. We receive suggestions from each group on many other issues, for example, on ways to improve our review process. It is important that we obtain fresh perspectives and a stream of exciting ideas each year. Thus, members of the EAB and Features Panels serve for a single three-year term, with new participants rotating onto these panels every year. This virtual issue is not just an occasion to highlight their work but also an opportunity for me to personally thank the current members of our EAB and Features Panel, and the hundreds of past members, for their time and effort. Their commitment to Analytical Chemistry has proven invaluable and is greatly appreciated.
