HARRIS^ In the benzoin condensation of quinaldehyde (I) none of the expected benzoin, but instead the isomeric 1,2-di-2-quinolyl-l,2-ethenediol (11) and its reduction product, 1,2-di-2-quinolyl-l,2ethanediol (111) were obtained, the amounts varying with the experimental conditions emdoved.
