The new Temco H o t Plates have a temperature range of ap proximately 140 to 850°F. with stepless control from 140 to 800 °F. The Patented Heat Control is built-in and recessed in the case. Stepless and wasteless control of the power supply is provided b y a sensitive thermostatic switch which is operated by a tiny heater. A n y temperature in range can be selected and held by merely turning the control knob. Surface plates are solid aluminum castings resting on slab type heating elements, coiled from heavy gauge nickel-chromium alloy and embedded in refractory. Cases are formed of polished stainless steel in two sections separated by a % " thickness of insulating material. Ventilat ing louvers and insulation assure cool operation of the control apparatus. The control panel is recessed for protection against spillage and houses the line switch, temperature control dial and knob. A neon p i l o t light indicates when the hot plate is turned on. Heating element slabs are identical for both siies of hot plates and for both 115 and 230 volt operation. Two elements are used in the smaller plate and four in the larger. The small hot plates are furnished with a 5 foot cord and plug, large hot plates require conduit connection. WHATMAN HARDENED FILTER PAPERS There are three grades of W H A T M A N Hardened Filter Papers, Nos. 50, 52 and 54. No. 50 is very retentive and therefore rather slow filtering. No. 52 is medium rapid and retentive, while No. 54 is open textured and rapid filtering.

They are used for a variety of purposes from filtering antitoxins and intravenous solutions to filtering drilling muds in the oil fields.

W H A T M A N Hardened Filter Papers are widely used on Buechner Funnels where their great wet strength makes possible the use of suction that would burst ordinary filter papers.
