H e r e are the Nitroparaffins — N M ( N i t r o ­ m e t h a n e ) , N E ( N i t r o e t h a n e ) , 1-NP( 1-Ni­ tropropane) and 2-NP(2-Nitropropane). These four N P ' s have a potential range of usefulness unequalled by any other g r o u p of organic chemicals! CSC's new N i t r o paraffin plant at Sterlington, La. is now in full production. Additional facilities for increased volume of N P derivatives are nearing completion. I n m a n y cases, they provide better a n d m o r e economical methods of manufactur­ ing well-known a n d widely used industrial chemicals. However, the majority of the reactions yield entirely new c o m p o u n d s . T h e r e is practically an unlimited n u m ­ ber of products which can be prepared from the N P ' s . A s solvents, they present an unusual combination of properties — they a r e medium-boiling, mild-odored a n d , most important of all, they have strong solvent power for a wide variety of s u b ­ stances, including m a n y coating materials, waxes, resins, gums, dyes, fats and oils, and n u m e r o u s organic chemicals. T h e C S C Nitroparaffins are chemistry's n e w ­ est stars. T h e y give new direction to the production of old products and the devel­ o p m e n t of new.
