W n n e SEOBRBLOM, ~ ~ P a d Chairmn WM. MCPHERSON. Pad Chairman Edilor-in-Chief NEIL E. GORDON,

I LOVE TO TEACH I do not know that I could make entirely dear to an outsider the pleasure I have in teaching. I had rather earn my living by t e a c h i 9 than in any other way. I n m y mind, teaching is not merely a life work, a profession, an oecupation, a struggle; i t is a passion. I love to teach. I lave t o teach as a painter loves to paint, as a musician loves t o play, as a singer loves to sing, as a strong man rejoices to run a race. Teaching is an a r t a n art so great and so difficult to master that a man or woman can spend a long life a t it without realizing much more than his limitations and mistakes, and his distance from the ideal. But the main aim of my happy days has been to become a good teacher, just as every architect wishes t o be a good architect and every professional poet strives toward p e r f e c t i o n . - W ~ ~ ~ LYON ~ A ~ PHELPS
