A New England producer of synthetic fibers had almost as much "down-time" as running time. They could not find a lubricant that would process these fibers. Tried new equipment; still n o go. Nopco developed lubricants that gave the proper balance of fiber-to-fiber lubricity, fiber-to-fiber cohesion, antistatic control. The mill h a s had high production ever since.

to be non-toxic—the pipe carries drinking water. It had to be water-soluble, so that the excess could be washed out. It had to retain its lubricating properties for an hour after the pipe is laid—so that it could be separated if the pipe was laid wrong! And it had to hold a constant viscosity in temperatures from below freezing to 140° F. Several firms tried—the manufacturer has now standardized on K B E , the lubricant Nopco developed to meet his requirements.

The case-histories briefly described here are recent examples of Nopco Chemicals for Production at work h e l p i n g turn out improved products better, faster, cheaper.

The fourdrinier machine in a Minnesota paper mill had to shut down and wait for help. Since they had shifted to a new sizing material that did the job they wanted on a fine grade of wallpaper, they found the paper was picking up spots caused by foam. Nopco technicians spent several days at the plant—after trying several Nopco defoamers, found the right combination. The high speed fourdrinier resumed operations. N o more spots.
