THE SKY IS THE LIMIT We exert a lot of energy to keep the air clean. Concern for the environment is part of Akzo Nobel's business policy. Stringent environmental standards are applied to all Akzo Nobel sites and because we do our homework in time, new legislation does not come as a surprise. In a test program at one of its sites Akzo Nobel has demonstrated that its chlorine recycling installation is capable of burning polychlorinated biphenyls (PCB s) at more than 9 9 % efficiency. With this we are able to meet the EU Directive which will become effective in 2 0 0 0 . At Akzo Nobel we monitor our global environmental performance in the key areas of water, air, waste and energy on an annual basis at some 2 5 0 sites in more than 5 0 countries The first certificates for Quality and Environment based on our integrated environmental management systems were awarded in 1 9 9 6 .
