Research Chemists ^The Standard Oil Company (Ohio) currently has career opportunities in its R&D facility for the^ following scientists:

P r o j e c t Associate—Alternate Energy Research We seek a Chemist or Chemical Engineer with at least 2 years experience in a surface chemistry lab. You will assist the Project Leader in a number of key energy related projects, including: measurement of physicochemical properties for microemulsions; studies of phase and interfacial behaviors for surfactant formulations in vitro and their rheological properties in porous media. This position requires a Bachelor's degree (MS preferred) in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering, and a strong background in Interfacial Phenomena or allied subject areas. In addition, you must be skilled in measuring physical properties and formulations for microemulsions and liquid crystals.

Gas Chromatography Specialist Candidates must have an MS degree in Chemistry and several years' experience in analytical chemistry, preferably in gas chromatography. They must demonstrate the ability to solve research and plant problems, and be familiar with major fields within analytical chemistry. Experience in handling both gas and liquid hydrocarbon samples is desirable. The candidate should have working knowledge of all phases of gas chromatography and the ability to work independently—as well as in team situations. Good communication skills are required for interacting with R&D and engineering personnel, and for writing comprehensive technical reports. The position entails interaction with research, chemical plant and refinery laboratories in solving problems. It will be necessary to keep abreast of new advances in analytical instrumentation, methods and related computer technology. There will be occasional travel to refineries and chemical plants. These are visible and challenging assignments with good advancement potential. For prompt consideration, please forward your resume indicating salary history in strict confidence to: Mr. J. L. Miller, The Standard Oil Company (Ohio), 20499 Midland Building, Cleveland, OH 44115. We are an equal opportunity employer, m/f.

A reference guide to electrochemical polarization testing in t h e study of corrosion is being offered by Petrolite Instruments, P.O. Box 2546, Houston, Tex. 77001, 713-926-7431. "Application of E l e c t r o c h e m i c a l Polarization to Corrosion Problems" by Richard L. T h e company manufactures and distributes P T F E Teflon labware and laboratory equipment, generally used for t h e industrial a n d laboratory handling of corrosive materials. T h e National Bureau of Standards has announced the availability of S R M 929, Magnesium Gluconate D i h y d r a t e , as a clinical laboratory standard. S R M 929, which is essentially 100% pure magnesium gluconate dihydrate, is intended for use in the calibration and standardization of clinical procedures employed in t h e determination of magnesium and for the routine evaluation of daily working standards used in these procedures. T h e similarity of magnesium to calcium carries into clinical physiology, where low serum magnesium levels, like those of calcium, could lead to tetany. High serum magnesium is a clinical symptom of certain renal malfunctions. Thus, it is important t h a t tests for serum magnesium be related to a standard of known accuracy. S R M 929 may be ordered from t h e Office of Standard Reference Materials, Room B311, Chemistry Building, National Bureau of Standards, Washington, D.C. 20234, for $58 per 5-g unit. A c c u l a b , 50 Maple Street, Norwood, N.J. 07648, 201-767-1600, has announced the expansion of their service facility for the servicing and rebuilding of SMA and AutoAnalyzer instrum e n t systems. Within the additional space are housed a dedicated machine shop, a glass-blowing and forming operation, a quality control lab, and a complete chemistry laboratory, each of which is fully staffed with skilled instrument specialists.
