The WALL STREET of CHEMISTRY Report of the Celotex Corp. and sub­ sidiaries for the fiscal year ended October 31, 1940, shows net profit of $747,628 after depreciation, interest, federal income taxes, etc., equal, after dividend require­ ments on 5 per cent preferred stock, to 94 cents a share on common. This compares with net profit of $741,756 or 9 3 cents a share in the preceding year.

The Harshaw Chemical Co. offered 20,000 shares of 4.5 per cent convertible preferred stock, priced at $100 a share. Holders of 7 per cent preferred received an offer to exenange eacn old share for one new share plus $16.75. For this purpose 10,000 new shares were reserved until the offer terminated on January 7, when shares not required for exenange were added to the 10,000 shares offered publicly. Each new share is convertible into 3 X A shares of common stock until June 30, 1943, 3Vs shares until December 31, 1945, 3 shares until December 3 1 , 1950, and 2 y 2 shares thereafter. The company plans to use about $300,000 of the proceeds to retire short-term bank loans and to add the remainder to general funds. Facili­ ties and equipment at the plants in Cleveland, Elyria, and Philadelphia are to be enlarged at a cost of about $400,000.

Pro­ duction of the fir plywood plant a t Seattle is being increased about one third, and an additional unit is soon to go into operation. Capacity of the plant a t Orangeburg, S. C , is being doubled. T h e company has leased a large plant at New Rochelle, N. Y., for manufacturing molded plywoodplastic products under the Vidal process.
