The resulting blue color is photoelectrically compared with a blank, and the differential output of photocells in the colorimeter is fed to a transistor amplifier. This gives an output of 1 ma. into a 1500-ohm resistance for full scale deflection on a suitable recorder. The whole sequence, including sampling of the water, is automatic and is controlled by a mechanical program timer. The operating cycle is 12 minutes.
