The diffractometer shown has an x-ray powder diffraction furnace (Model HX) mounted in position. The x-ray diffraction system including an x-ray generator and control, diffractometer, slit system, detector, and recorder has been designed to provide a simple, compact, versatile, but low-cost instrument. The x-ray generator has output voltage continuously variable from 10 to 45 kv. and output current continuously variable from 0 to 50 ma. The detection system consists of a GeigerMueller argon halogen quenched tube and the recorder is a strip chart potentiometer which is portable. A new Series 2600 automatic temperature control unit is available for bomb calorimeters. This is a complete, thermistor-actuated system consisting of the necessary power supply, bridge circuit, amplifiers, relays, electric water heater and valves for the automatic addition of hot and cold water to adjust and control calorimeter jacket temperatures. Temperature differences as small as 0.001° C. actuate the system to restore the balance. The temperature control unit can be used with Parr adiabatic calorimeters in either new or old installations. Manufactured of high density polyethylene, it can be subjected to temperatures up to 250°F. without harm to the porous media. Excellent for use with all bases, acids and salts with the exception of strong oxidizing agents at elevated temperatures. NO solvent will dissolve LABPOR at room temperature.
