When substituted for their branched chain counter parts, these straight chain molecules can often impart superior properties to your end products. When esterified with polyols. for example, n-heptanoic acid can impart highly desir able properties to special lubricants and plasticizers. Glycerophthalic resins esterified with it can increase the resistance of paints to aging. And its low molecular weight esters can be used in perfumes and food flavorings. Also, in many cases, plasti cizers such as di-n-heptyl phthalate are more effective than others prepared from the corresponding branched chain alcohols. Many mixed phthalates such as capryl/n-heptyl and
