Soil Burial Resisiance of Vinyl Chloride Plastics. Loss of flexibility depends on choice and concentration of plasticizer, rather than on exposure conditions. Nonmigratory and/or microbial resistant plasticizers perform best. Disintegration of plasticizer at soil-plastic interface appears to be the mechanism involved in flexibility loss.
Turbulenee Intensities in Polymer Solutions. Hot film anemometry data indicate regimes of very high turbulence intensity in the pipe flow of some polymer solutions. Detailed probe response studies are needed to determine hvhether such results are valid or caused by exaggerated response to velocity AUCtuations.

A Guide to Methods for the Generation of Liapunov Functions.
Summarizes historical development and classifications of methods for systems of deterministic ordinary differential equations. Cites surveys from 1960 to 1967. Shows that a very simple type of classification is possible, within which almost all different methods can be contained.

Synihesis of Acids b y the liquid Phase Oxidaiion of N-Hexane.
Describes how new experimental data together with previous data permits re-examination of the mechanism of formation of acid products and the contribution of decarboxb-lative oxidation to their distribution.

Reverse Osmosis with Aqueous Organic Soluiions. Separation characteristics of cellulose acetate membranes were studied. Solute retention appears to be primarily a function of molecular weight and is high if the latter is greater than 200.

Fricfional losses in Foam-Damped Flexible Tubes. Frictional loss was reduced when a flexible silastic tube encased in a polyurethane dampening medium was used. T h e maximum effect of a ball-type valve was noted several feet downstream from the valve.

Validity of the Steady-State Approximation Applied to i h e Pyrolysis of n-Buiane. Quantitative proof of the validity of the
steady-state approximation in the mechanistic treatment of the pyrolysis of n-butane is given. T h e lenzth of induction period is noted, and free radical concentrations are predicted. J . E. Blakemore and W . nology M s . 68- 7 6 3
