new STAINLESS STEEL BUECHNER FUNNELS The Lightfoot Stainless Steel Bu.ech.ner Funnel is a new develop ment in this type of apparatus. Fabricated from 18-8 stainless steel, this funnel is composed of two separate units, the funnel body proper and a grooved filter plate stem which have the following advantages: FEATURES: 1) Easy Cleaning. Since there is no fixed plate in this funnel, all surfaces are readily accessible to cleaning agents and to the eye for inspection. There is no sintered material to become clogged ortD retain and conceal contaminants. The funnel can be completely cleaned in a few seconds with a stream of solvent from a wash bottle ' τ~ η 2) Quantitative Ejection of Cake. The filter cake is quantitatively ejected by pressing in the stem, so that digging and scraping to remove solids is unnecessary. This is a great advantage when one is working on fine preparations where quantitative recoveries are desired. 3) E l i m i n a t i o n of Backwash. When a Buechner funnel is inverted for the removal of solids frequently an appreciable amount of mother-liquor from the under surface of the perforated plate backwashes onto the solids after they are removed. This annoyance is eliminated by the plunger action of this funnel.
4) Long S t e m . The stem of the Lightfoot funnel has been made extra long to insure that it will project well below the side-arm of filtering flasks. „, n _ , D , , , T, ? , D * e p F u n n e l Body. -TODD SILENT BURNER— A UNIVERSAL BURNER FOR GENERAL GLASS BLOWING WORK
(U. S. PATENT PENDING)
This burner is the result of several years' experience in the design and use of burners b y professional glass blowers for the fabrication of single and production quantities of many types of glass apparatus. This development brings to pro fessional glass blowers and other laboratory technicians a new design of silent burner which is very easy to operate, and yet, has the full range of flame char acteristics required for general glass blowing work. SILENT OPERATION of this burner enables the operator to work with increased efficiency and without disturbing the surrounding personnel. This silent operation is obtained by the Trending of the gases within the burner to give high combustion efficiency with maximum economy of gases. WITHOUT CHANGING BURNER TIPS and with only three valves, it is pos sible to instantly produce extremely hot flames, which range from a sharp, short, needle point to a wide brush flame. SEVERAL TYPES OF GLASS, such as, Pyrex, quartz, Vycor, Nonex, Supremax, etc., may be readily worked. VARIOUS GASES, such as manufactured, mixed, natural, hydrogen, and pro pane type tank gases, with B.t.u. values ranging from 300 to 3000, and with pressure as low as 0.2 lb. per sq. in., can be used with oxygen in this burner. OTHER USES—Many other types of laboratory heavy duty heating operations, such as, crucible ignitions, ore fusing, pyrolyses, etc., may be carried out by the use of the extreme high temperatures produced with this low cost burner. The Todd Scientific Company uses this burner for the manufacture of all of its glass apparatus and instruments.
