O MEASURE of the value of this alcohol quite approaches a trial of it. Yes, its physical constants tell some things, but many applications are best defined and evaluated by what happens i n the test tube. That is w h y we ask, "Tried It?"
One group of uses for Furfuryl Alcohol stem from its solvent, penetrant, and wetting action. Thus it is employed as a dye solvent in textile printing, w h e r e it is said to act as a fixative a n d render the finished cloth more color stable. Its use is growing as a solvent-plasticizer i n making abrasive wheels; and w h e n converted into the corresponding xanthate it is useful as a flotation agent. Dilute mineral acid resinifies Furfuryl Alcohol. By effecting this polymerization in situ, using dilute mineral acid or acid salt, ctiemical-resistant coatings are produced o n wood and other surfaces. T h e resin forms e v e n i n the absence of external heat. Perhaps your particular problem concerns n o n e of these applications, but even so it is desirable to investigate Furfuryl Alcohol. Specific questions are gladly discussed, but most of all do not pass the opportunity to try it i n your o w n particular way.
