Twenty-two ways to start fresh with 4-carbon diols. From GAF, three versatile molecules to move your synthesis program into interesting new areas.

A

Butanediol (1,4-butanediol) Extremely versatile. Undergoes all reactions common to alcohols and diols. Already being widely used in the preparation of polyesters and polyure; thanes for synthetu ; ic fibers, leathers, films, and elasto mers. Also, in the preparation of plas^ _ _ ticizers, softening __ m^JZ* a g e n t S j bonding agents, drugs and pharma ceuticals.

Β

Butenediol (2-butene-l,4-diol) An economical source for a stable double bond. Can function as a glycol or a di-substituted ethylene. A proven route for synthesiz ing plasticizers, ag ricultural and biochemicals, phar maceuticals, textile

assistants, flame retardants, functional fluids and polymers.

C

Butynediol (2-butyne-l,4-diol) A real building block which provides a low-cost, safe source for the triple bond. Reacts either as a disubstituted acetylene or as a glycol. Offers endless possiBUTYNEDIOL bilities for new synthesis, many of which are re ported in our 1 — - ™ J technical bro chure on this product. Technical literature available GAF has prepared ex tensive technical literature on each of these 4-carbon diols. Included are a great many additional chemical reactions, a review of their chemical and physical prop erties, and detailed informa tion on the grades of these commercially available chemicals.
