Laser-driven ∼1 GPa shock waves are used to dynamically compress self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) consisting of octadecanethiol (ODT) on Au and Ag, and pentanedecanethiol (PDT) and benzyl mercaptan (BMT) on Au. The SAM response to
