I

am pleased to announce that the 2017 Clarivate Analytics Journal Impact Factor (JIF) for ACS Catalysis has been released, with a value of 11.384. The continued growth of numerous publication parameters and other statistics at ACS Catalysis are a testament to the journal’s utility as a tool that effectively serves the global catalysis community. Our rising statistics include: • annual submissions (520% increase since 2012) • papers published annually (270% increase since 2012) • breadth of topical coverage (fully inclusive of top papers in biocatalysis and enzymology, molecular catalysis and heterogeneous catalysis, including thermal catalysis, electrocatalysis, and photocatalysis, as well as work at the interfaces of these traditional subfields) • JIF (116% increase since 2012) We seek to have impact in three primary ways: (i) By publishing rigorously vetted scientific content at the cutting edge of catalysis. (ii) By publishing work that is inclusive of the huge array of topics currently pursued by catalysis scientists, worldwide. (iii) By publishing a significant volume of submissions, an amount that is commensurate with the top 10% of papers published annually in catalysis titles. I wish to draw attention to our recently revised Guide to Authors,1 which now contains a single-page summary of key items that authors must consider when preparing papers for submission to ACS Catalysis. As a reminder, this includes the requirement of disclosing prior submissions to any journal, although the amount of detail included in the disclosure is at the authors’ discretion.2,3 Also note that certain paper types are more likely to be considered by the journal if their submission is preapproved by the Editor-in-Chief (EIC). Specifically, Reviews, Perspectives, Viewpoints, and Accounts should be vetted with the EIC prior to submission. This step is important to ensure that we do not have multiple papers in preparation covering a similar scope. Despite such efforts, in some cases, similar submissions are received. In a recent example, an error in the EIC office led to approval for submission of two similar Review articles. Because both papers were submitted in parallel, and both offered unique aspects, despite an overlap in topical content, both were passed through the peer review process and subsequently published.4,5 While Reviews, Perspectives, and Viewpoints account for only ∼7% of published content, such papers are important research contributions of our authors and research tools for our readers, and the EIC office seeks to manage the flow of such submissions in a proactive way. Finally, I wish to remind you about our upcoming celebratory session marking Prof. Nicholas Turner’s receipt of the 2018 ACS Catalysis Lectureship for the Advancement of Catalysis, to be held at the Fall ACS National Meeting in Boston, MA, in conjunction with the ACS Division of Catalysis Science and Technology.6 I hope to see many of you there!
