W h a t Does Victor Make? Phosphorus and phosphorus (com pounds, formates, oxalates, chelating agents and photographic chemicals,, the latter a function of t h e A. R . JVdEaas Chemical Company Division, South Gate, Calif. We are principally iproducers of phosphorus a n d its many- de rivatives, both organic and inorganic.
Where Are Victor Chemicals Used? In detergents and soaps, in foods and beverages, in water softening and con ditioning, in petroleum processing, in dentifrices, in metal finishing, in phar maceuticals, in textiles and leather-s, in plastics, and in agriculture. In addition, Victor chemicals are used in t h e production of paper, leather-, ce ment, cosmetics, paint, synthetic rub ber, and atomic fuels a n d shielding ma terials. Victor ammonium phosptiates have played an important part ira. the development of flameproof resin—base paints. Victor oxalic acid is used by formulators of automobile-radiator cleaners. Other Victor products are used in mining, flotation, metallurgy, irrigation, ceramics, glass, wallpaper printing, insulation, munitions, and P3'r ο technics.
ety of phosphates along with formates and oxalates. At Nashville, Tenn., we concentrate on calcium phosphates and several organo-phosphorus compounds. At Morrisville, Pa., across the river from Trenton, N . J., we produce mainly sodium phosphates. At South Gate, Calif., p a r t of greater Los Angeles, we produce several sodium and potassium phosphates, in addition to our line of photographic chemicals a n d chelating agents. Victor's phosphorus is produced from phosphate rock in three electric fur nace plants located near t h e three m a jor phosphate fields in America. W e are the only phosphate producer today, with three separate phosphorus manu facturing locations. One elemental phosphorus plant is in M o u n t Pleasant, Tenn., 60 miles from Nashville. An other is a t Tarpon Springs, Fla., 40 miles from Tampa. Our newest plant is in Silver Bow, Mont., 6 miles from Butte. W e have phosphate reserves near each of these plants and operate mines a t two of them.
Where Would I Fit In? Your opportunities a t Victor are many and varied. There are openings for chemical engineers a n d chemists to staff our growing research divisions and plants. What About Research? Research has played a vital p a r t in Victor's growth. M a n y of our impor t a n t products today were l a b o r a t o r y curiosities just a few y e a r s ago. Facili ties are being constantly expanded t a keep pace with Victor's ever-increasing; requirements for research and develop ment. active in company affairs. Training at Victor is of the informal, on-the-job type—not a formal schoolroom affair. A department manager supervises inside-sales training; a territorial salesman supervises outside-sales training. Victor training centers are in Chicago, Los Angeles, and New York. Training is normally completed in one location to save the inconvenience of moving around from place to place. Victor sales offices are in Chicago, New York, Nashville, Kansas City, and South Gate, Calif.
Any Opportunities for Further Study? All Victor plants are located near universities offering scientific and technical courses for those interested in further study or higher degrees. In addition to readily available university libraries, Victor maintains a research library. This library provides up-to-date and readily accessible information on research being conducted in this as well as in foreign countries. Any After-Hours Activities?

Representatives from each of these groups hold monthly meetings with top management to report and discuss current projects. Certain specialized research projects are handled by research chemists and chemical engineers at Mount Pleasant, Tenn.
What Part Do Chemical Engineers Play? Chemical engineers comprise the backbone of our Operating Department. Practically all the supervisors and managers in all our plants are chemical engineers. Chemical engineers are divided into three groups at our Central Chemical Engineering Department a t Chicago Heights, 111. One group takes processes from the Research Laboratory and develops them through the pilot plant stage. A second group assists the Operating Departments by constantly (ADVERTISEMENT)
studying and improving our products and processes. The third group, a Semi-Works Operating Division, supervises the operation of semi-commercial scale equipment for initial output.
Yes. Victor Clubs sponsor social events regularly a n d are instrumental in organizing group sports activities such as bowling and golf. Victor also pays the expenses of company personnel who attend the local monthly technical society meetings of various types, as well as men representing Victor at national meetings. These men are selected on a rotating basis.
Where Are Victor Labs Located? In addition to the Research Laboratories, Victor has Control and Analytical Laboratories in all seven plants. Since Victor products are food grade and technical grade compounds, the maintenance of high quality through laboratory control is of prime importance.
