Standards

A new series of seven spectrographic standards with analysis provided by four independent laboratories is now available. The series contains five low alloy and two plain carbon steel stan dards. Data is furnished on C, Mn, P, S, Si, Cu, Ni, Cr, Mo, Sn, and Al. A three-page bulletin describing the standards is also available. Brammer S+andard Co., P. 0 . Box 339, Aliquippa, Pa. 15001 501 New

DON'T TAKE OUR WORD FOR IT...WE DON'T! That's why we asked experts in the amino acid analysis field to prove to us that our reagent grade Ninhydrin is the best there is. Oh, sure, we run all the routine tests for sensitivity, blank, UV, ash and solubility. Plus a few clever checks that are privy to our staff. But we figure it's important enough that YOU know that Pierce Ninhydrin is proven in use. Therefore every lot of our Ninhydrin is proven in actual use by a most capable and respected independent laboratory*. So now we know- and you know- that Pierce Ninhydrin is all that you expect it 1o be. Since we pioneered Ninhydrin 18 years ago we have striven to stay ahead of the fastmoving technology of amino acid analysis. A n d we'd like you to know that effort is still in progress. A n d , of course, we supply the broadest line of other speciafty amino acid and peptide reagents. Dansyl chloride and its amino acid derivatives, dinitrofluorobenzene, t-butyl azidoformate, fluorescein mercuric acetate, hexafluoroacetone and hexafluoroisopropano! (spectral grades), silylating reagents and standards — to select a random few f r o m our extensive list. We'd like to send you our list of amino acid and peptide reagents. Just ask for " A m A c list."

Solubilizers

New solubilizers for liquid scintilla tion cocktails eliminate the need to use dioxane as a cocktail solvent for aque ous biological material permitting toluene to be substituted. Bio-Solv cocktails are phase stable at both re frigerated and ambient temperatures. All phosphorescence and chemiluminescence problems are eliminated. Count ing efficiency is very high. Formerly manufactured under the name Colosolve, the three Bio-Solve formulations are now available from Beckman In struments, Inc., 2500 Harbor Blvd., Fullerton, Calif. 92634 502

* O u r Severest Critics. These accomplished gentlemen head ArRo laboratories in Joliet, Illinois. They are respected for their advanced knowledge of amino acid analysis and other techniques. They supervise the operation o ' the sophisticated instru mentation that must prove every lot of Pierce Nin hydrin and Amino A c i d s Standards Solution before :ept if

Cationic Methacrylate Monomer

Sipomer Q-l, a cationic methacrylate monomer, may be homopolymerized to a hygroscopic polymer which can be used m preparing adhesives, coatings, coagulants, and antistatic additives. I t may also be copolymcrized with other monomers to impart a cationic char acter and improve stability.
