We crack under pressure. A t Lonza, light virgin naphtha is cracked in a unique plant - under pressure. N o other European fine chemical company has the same degree of backward integration. But we also take pride in being able to master practically all types of pressure, high or low, from a few millibars to 1000 bars Here are a few examples: In the 1-10-bar range, we produce acetoacetalkylamides, barbituric acid, acetaldehyde and do hydrogénations. Methyl butinol, waste water decontamination, orthoalkylations, 5-ethyl-2-methylpyridine and niacin are handled in
the 10-100-bar range, whereas ammonia takes more than 700 bars t o produce. A t the mbar-end of the scale, we distil malononitrile and niacinamide at below 10 mbar, rectify high boiling organic liquids at 10-100 mbar and perform diketene reactions at around 600 mbar. Generally speaking, we work well under pressure - any kind of pressure. And we have found lots of applications for our extensive technological capabilities to sei^e a broad customer base.
