The truth about salesmen Somewhere along the way, salesmen have developed the image of being soft. Every charley horse, ache and pain they get is diagnosed as a case of golfitis acquired somewhere along 19 holes. The plain facts are, though, that one of our sales representatives received a charley horse in the line of duty—from manhandling some drums of an Eastman antioxidant destined for a customer in the deep South. Let the following set the record straight. Late in the afternoon of July 5, the representative received a call at his home in Houston from a customer's PA. Although his order scheduled for delivery on the second had left Kingsport in plenty of time, holiday traffic had bogged it down in transit. Where was it? He needed it. The Eastman representative knew there was a good chance the order would arrive the following day. Should he take it? He decided not to. Starting from scratch, he called Eastman's Houston warehouse, contacted a trucker specializing in hot shot service and headed for the loading area to expedite matters. With the help of the warehouse salesman (everyone else was on holiday) the representative loaded the drums of antioxidant on the waiting truck. By 9:00 PM the order was on its way. The customer received it at 2:00 AM the next morning. Wouldn't you know it? Less than ten hours later, the original shipment arrived. Eastman service leaves little to chance.
