EASTMAN ACIDS AND ANHYDRIDES

«τι*»

It's a matter of having the right connections"

So relates one of our regional sales managers. 'Tor some time we had been trying to convince a prospective customer to try us for his acetic acid requirements, when one Monday morning he finally did. He ordered a tank truck for Wednesday delivery, mentioning that their receiving tank was equipped with a quick connect coupling—2Vi". "Since the truck had to leave our plant the next day to make delivery on time, I teletyped the order immediately with special instructions about the connection. Back came the reply: CARRIER'S TRUCKS EQUIPPED WITH STANDARD 2" AND 3" QUICK CONNECT COUPLINGS ONLY. ALTERATIONS TO ADAPT WILL DELAY SHIPMENT SEVERAL DAYS AS IV2 QUICK CONNECT COUPLING N O T IN STOCK OR AVAILABLE AT LOCAL SUPPLIERS. "Now, how can you tell a new customer who just ordered a tank truck of acetic acid that you can't deliver—on schedule—because of a connection? "I didn't. Instead I called several industrial equipment stores in my area and finally located à IVi" quick connect coupling adapter-2 1 /^" inside threaded. A call to the Acid Division Materials Handling Supervisor at our plant started our maintenance shops working on the problem. They came through in the pinch and fabricated a second adapter, this one V/i" outside threaded, 3" quick connect coupling. "Tuesday morning I delivered the first adapter to the customer. The tank truck arrived from our plant the next day with the second adapter, and with a few turns of a wrench the connection to the receiving tank was made." All of which goes to show that the connection between our customers and ourselves is based on interested personal service-and this we have in all sizes.
