Where there's fire there doesn't have to be smoke. At least not as much as before. Ther moguard* S-711 Flame Retarder lets you formulate PVC products with a significantly lower smoke emission rating than those con taining other antimony-based materials, often improving flame spread protection as well. In actual testing, results identical to those dramatized above show that PVC con taining Thermoguard S-711 Flame Retarder and 50 phr or less of plasticizer generates as much as 30% less smoke than PVC containing comparable levels of antimony oxide and plasticizer. The most dramatic difference occurred with phos phate ester plasticizer. This lower smoke gen eration enabled one vinyl formulator t o reduce his product's smoke rating in the ASTM E-84 tunnel test t o less than 2 5 . For vinyl wall coverings, automobile interiors, wire and cable covering or sheeting,

Thermoguard S-711 (formerly Thermoguard B) can answer the growing demand for im proved smoke suppression. And it can also let you maintain your present flame rating at lower cost, because it's also more effec tive than antimony oxide as a flame retarder in formulations with 50 phr or less of plasticizer. And Thermoguard S-711 Flame Re tarder offers superior flame and smoke pro tection for plastics besides PVC. We've had promising results with unsaturated polyester. SBR latex and polystyrene, too. m ' φ{ F o r data on Thermoguard S-711 or any of our other flame retarders for plastics, paints, paper, rubber and adhesives, contact your nearest M&T office or write: M&T Chemicals Inc., Rahway, New Jersey 0 7 0 6 5 .
