EVAPORATE FRACTIONAL CRYSTALLIZATION (usually as double salt)

; FILTER REPEAT EVAPORATION AND CRYSTALLIZATION 1500 TIMES

"Because of the chemical similarity of rare earth- mêlais and their low concent)alum in ore sources, their isolation by oidinary procedures involves as many as1500 fractional crystallizations. Ion exchange offers ei far more practical method. If f/ie rare earth is passed through the sodium form of AMBERLITE IR-lOO, the metals are prefercnlicdly adsorbed in chromatographic bands. Treatment of the ion exchanger with the proper acid or "complex-forming," reagent releases the various rare earth meted salts in increasingly concentrated increments.

Chromatographic isolation with Amberlite Ion Exchange Resins T h e preferential adsorption, displayed by AMBERLIXE Ion Exchange Resins greatly simplifies many otherwise complex recovery methods. In many cases, simple adjustments in rate of flow and depth of resin bed permit adsorption of ions in different strata of the bed. Ions can then be recovered in concentrated form b y continued recycling or by proper choice of eluting reagent. This preferential adsorption by the AMBERLITES permits separating materials of similar chemical characteristics, without resorting to laborious and time-consuming fractional crystallizations. Whether you are interested in special processing problems—or in softening or complete deionization of water—it will pay you to investigate the AMBERLITES. Our technical staff will gladly discuss potential uses. A M B E R L I T B is a trade-mark,
