Willing hands are waiting to carry out what we conceive How do you translate a test tube process into a titan of modern production? Or develop the first prototype design as a guide to the laboratory group developing such a process? Or create new economic analytical techniques that will assure practical realization in the field? That is the breadth of challenge you find at ESSO. Whether you're analyzing data from laboratory, pilot plant or commercial plant, conceiving designs for the plants themselves, or overseas on start-up and technical assistance assignments, your contribution becomes a vital factor in Jersey Standard's worldwide operation.

ENGINEERING (ChE,ME,CE,EE) Process Engineering —Develop the first prototype design of new fuels and chemicals processes. Provide the basic process information required for economics studies or design of new process plants. Process Selection and E c o n o m i c s Prepare economic and technical planning studies for new refineries, refinery fuel process units, petrochemical and fertilizer projects. Evaluate processes and develop operating plans incorporating the latest engineering technology in our design of new plants. Plan the most desirable sequence of process unit additions from both the technical and economic viewpoint. Systems Engineering—Simulation of refining and chemical processes to permit design and evaluation of improved control systems. Involves analysis of transient response data in troubleshooting, control and stability problems. Corrosion Engineering—Develop unique methods to reduce or inhibit corrosion through the study of the

basic scientific concepts controlling its initiation and rate. Studies include nonmetallics and electrochemistry. Fractionation Engineering— Predict capacity and contacting efficiency for fractionation and extraction towers. Design tower internals and develop new and improved correlations for predicting performance characteristics, using theoretical considerations and experimental data. Project Engineering and Management —Appraise execution of detailed design and procurement work of contractors engaged in design of facilities for ESSO affiliates. Responsibilities.include assessing design procedures, cost control systems, and contract administration (any degree). Project Design—Apply fundamental chemical engineering and economics to derive the optimum process scheme for commercial design specifications. Work includes following the progress of the job, appraising contractors' detailed engineering and assisting in the start-up of completed facilities throughout the world. Computer Applications—Develop mathematical and engineering relationships required to simulate major process equipment. Define the major logic for programming of the mathematical model of the digital computer and write the critical portions of such programs. Plastics Machinery EngineeringEvaluate and specify thermoplastic resin fabricating machinery. Troubleshoot machinery problems in

resin fabricating plants. Act as project engineer in design, procurement, contracting and detail engineering of new facilities. Furnace Design—Consult with project engineers on unusual furnace equipment designs. Design critical "first-of-its-kind" equipment. Troubleshoot equipment failures and design deficiencies. Originate and carry out research and development programs to improve and extend technology in the process heat transfer field. Cost Engineering — Develop techniques to quickly translate limited process information into quantities of materials and equipment that realistically represent the final plant design. Collect and correlate cost data for locations of interest to worldwide affiliates of Standard Oil (N.J.). Combine these quantity prediction techniques and cost data to prepare investment cost estimates for research guidance, design optimization, allocation of capital funds and cost control.
