Typical symptoms of acute exposures:

In the eyes, pain, blurred vision, blindness. On the skin, pain, severe burns. If fumes, dust, or solution mist inhaled, sore throat, coughing, shortness of breath, labored breathing, lung edema, acute pulmonary damage. If ingested, sore throat, abdominal pain, vomiting, diarrhea, collapse. Principal target organ(s) or system(s):

Eyes, skin, mucous membranes, respiratory system, pancreas.

Storage Requirements Store with other poisons separated from poisonous bases in a cool, dry, well ventilated, locked location.

Additional Remarks As evident from one of its synonyms, zinc chloride is a commonly used soldering flux. When it is heated, for example when soldering, zinc chloride generates toxic fumes. If inhaled, the fumes can be fatal. Symptoms of lung edema are not manifest immediately in victims who have inhaled zinc chloride fumes, dust, or solution mist; some hours may elapse first; physical effort can exaggerate these symptoms. Rest is essential for persons exposed to excess dust or mist.
