The American Chemical Society will honor Dr. A. J. P. Martin at an Anniversary Symposium on Chromatography in New York City at the fall national meeting. The occasion is the 30th anniversary of the invention of partition chromatography, the 20th anniversary of the invention of gas chromatography, and the 100th anniversary of the birth of Mikhail S. Tswett, who made the first chromatographic analysis in 1906 in Russia. Dr. Martin, British biochemist, shared the 1952 Nobel Prize in Chemistry with Dr. Richard Synge; he was cited for his work in partition chromatography. Dr. Martin was recently named an honorary member of the Chemists' Club (New York). William W. Keeler, chairman and chief executive officer of Phillips Petroleum Co., has been named to receive the International Palladium Medal of the American Section of the Société de Chimie Industrielle, Inc., for 1972. It will be presented at a dinner in his honor Oct. 30 in New York City, at which time Mr. Keeler will be cited for "his distinguished contributions to goodwill and understanding both in the United States and abroad throughout his long career in the petroleum and chemical industries." Dwight L. Moody Dwight L. Moody, 72, formerly chemicals editor of The Journal of Commerce and a member of its editorial staff 1947-65, died Aug. 2 in Greenwich, Conn. He had attended Middlebury College and graduated from the Columbia school of journalism. He had worked for Dow Jones and for Francis I. duPont & Co. before joining JC. He later joined Alec Jordan Associates and continued as a consultant to JC.

Mosher memorial service A memorial service will be held for Dr. William A. Mosher, who died July 23, in Mitchell Hall at the University of Delaware, Newark, Del., Saturday, Sept. 16, at 11 A.M. (See C&EN, July 31, page 2.) Dr. Mosher was a member of the ACS Board of Directors. August 28, 1972 C&EN

Meetings Energy conversion conference The 7th Intersociety Energy Conversion Con­ ference will be held Sept. 25-29 at the Hilton Inn, San Diego, Calif. ACS western meeting The ACS Western Regional Meeting, joint with the Pacific meeting of the Society for Applied Spectroscopy and the annual meet­ ing of the Optical Society of America, will be held at the Jack Tar Hotel, San Francisco, Oct. 16-20. Sessions and symposiums are scheduled on chemistry, chemical instrumentation, spec­ troscopy, and optics. The ACS-SAS pro­ gram will be held Oct. 16-18 and that of the Optical Society, Oct. 18-20. Central Regional Meeting, 7 3 The 5th Central Regional Meeting of ACS will be held at the Sheraton-Cleveland Ho­ tel, Cleveland, May 13-15, 1973. Contrib­ uted papers are invited in all branches of chemistry. Symposium topics will include: newer analytical techniques in clinical chemistry, macromolecular structure, activities of the ACS Division of Chemical Education, sulfur chemistry, reference aids, optical activity in metal complexes and metalloproteins, metabolic regulation, biological membranes, reactive intermediates in organic chemistry, chemistry of transition metal carbon bonds, diffusion, photochemical processes, and modern instrumentation for chemical tech­ nicians.
