Features Urea and melamine formaldehyde resins for use as modifiers for surface coating materials Used as a vasoconstrictor Provides effective stabilization, and offers high dispersibility Capable of bonding fluorocarbon polymers and metals For use in rubber products requiring smooth extrusions For corrosion proofing industrial equipment on site Used as a lubricant aid for alkyd extrusions

Available in commercial quantities unless otherwise noted.

Telescoping support device for laboratory clamp setups is available from Manostat Corp., New York City. The unit can be used to support beakers, flasks, burets, funnels, and other commonly used labware. It is made of lightweight chrome-plated brass tubing and can telescope from 7.5 to 18 in. in length. It is available in two models: one for attaching to tables, the other for attaching to support frames. Ε 35

Small-scale, liquid-metal pump for use with sodium, lithium, cesium, rubid ium, and sodium-potassium alloy has been developed by MSA Research Corp., Callery, Pa. The pump de velops a flow of 2 gal. per min. at a 3 lb.-per-sq.-in. head when pumping sodium-potassium alloy. It operates to 800° F. E 36

Cathodic vacuum etcher for etching metallurgical specimens is available from Numinco, Monroeville, Pa. The instrument bombards the specimen with positive ions, removing atoms from the specimen's surface and re vealing structure details. Materials that can be etched include metals, metal oxides, cermets, alloys, and dis similar metal couples. Ε 37 52

Teflon-lined rubber tubing that com bines the chemical and physical prop erties of Teflon with the elasticity, scuff resistance, and thermal protec tion of neoprene is available from Pennsylvania Fluorocarbon Co., Inc., of Clifton Heights, Pa. The tubing, called Penntube RR, is available with inside diameters from 1 / s to l 1 / ? hi. Ε 38

Density column for measuring density of materials that are often in forms dif ficult to handle, such as films, fibers, and powders, is available from Techne, Ltd., Princeton, N.J. The equipment, which uses the high-den sity gradient method, consists of a calibrated glass tube 5 cm. in diam eter and 85 cm. long, surrounded by a water jacket maintained at a constant temperature to within ± 0 . 1 ° C. For calibrating the column, the company provides a set of glass market floats of known density. Ε 39

Temperature controller that converts the company's fluidized baths to thermostatically controlled baths is available from Techne, Ltd., Prince ton, N.J. The controller, Model TC-1, operates to 1100° F. and is available in 115- and 240-volt models. Ε 40

NEW CHEMICALS Methyl ethyl ketone peroxides which feature low viscosity for faster disper sion are available from Apogee Chemi cal, Inc., of Richmond, Calif. The peroxides, Aposet 600, 601, and 602, possess standard, high, and extra-high reactivity, respectively. Low viscosity of the peroxides allows reducing the catalyst concentration in polyester fab rication systems using catalyst injector spray units, with no loss in fabrication speeds or product quality. Gas chromatographic support mate rial for use in qualitative and quantitive determinations of highly polar compounds has been developed by Fluorocarbon Co., Anaheim, Calif. The material, Fluoropak 80, combines ease of coating and packing with ef fective reduction of tailing in analysis of materials such as ammonia, water, and hydrogen chloride. Fluoropak 80 is inert to most chemicals, the com pany says, and can be used with highly corrosive agents such as acetic acid, chlorine, bromine, and hydrogen sulfide. C 68
