Two additional crystallizations yielded a pure product rnelting at A 7.5-g. portion of I-piperidyl-~,4,6-triacety~-~-glucose' 164', [aI3'D +36.0° (c 1.5, chloroform). dissolved in 7 3 ml. of anhydrous pyridine. A 4.2-g. Anal. Calcd. for ClsH34O9N2: C, 61.98; €1, c1.34; 5 , portion of a-naphthyl isocyanate was added, the flask was

stoppered, and the mixture allowed to stand for an hour. At the end of this period, the flask was placed on a steambath for 16 minutes and then maintained a t room temperature overnight. The solution was then diluted with 10 ml. of water and heated on the steam-bath for 10 minutes, whereupon it was poured into 300 ml. of ice-water.
