A facile pressure-induced disproportionation of nitric oxide occurs at 176 K and 1.5 GPa. The reaction products are Nz04, N20, and a small, variable amount of NzO3 as identified by infrared, Raman, and visible absorption spectroscopies. No free NO, NZO2,or NO2is observed after warming the sample to room temperature. The NzO4 product subsequently photolyzes to form N203and NO2+NO
