Two views of Emery dimer acids make performance more predictable. i

Both beakers shown above contain Empol 1024 Dimer Acid. Theoretically, the molecular weight percentages on the left should equal the functionality percentages on the right. In practice, every dimer acid deviates somewhat from this predicted equivalency. The practical consequence is that two analytical methods are necessary to characterize dimer acids and predict their performance. Historically, the standard shortpath methyl ester distillation method of analyzing dimer acids often has been assumed to define the proportions of mono-, di- and polyfunctional molecules. Actually it defines molecular weight proportions. High pressure liquid chromatography analysis, on the

other hand, gives valid results in terms of functionality but says nothing about molecular weight. Rely on Emery expertise.

Depending on your planned application, it can be essential for you to have accurate data on molecular weight, functionality or both. That's why we recommend you consider both short-path methyl ester and HPLC analytical results. It's just one example of Emery expertise. But then Emery is the company that invented dimer acids in the first place and that still is the world's largest marketer of these versatile products.
