USS Chemicals will double maleic anhydride capacity here
with a second plant and built by Scientific Design They will also boost fumaric acid capacity with an SD process United States Steel's USS Chemicals Division will double its maleic anhydride capacity and substantially increase its fumaric acid capacity with two new SD-licensed plants at Neville Island, Pa. The first maleic anhydride plant at this location was built by SD in 1961. The SD maleic anhydride process utilizes the SD catalyst in high-capacity reactors to minimize capital investment and achieve the highest known product yield. With the latest of a number of improvements in related processes, SD now offers the most economical routes to the production of malic acid and/or fumaric acid. SD is the only engineering company that can provide a maleic anhydride plant from process through engi-
neering, construction and successful start-up. Nearly two-thirds of the world's maleic anhydride production comes from plants using this SD process. SD has more extensive organic chemical process knowhow, design, engineering and construction experience than any other company. Call us in confidence about your plans. Scientific Design Company, Inc.
