WHAT'S NEW? PPG BLEACH PROCESS CUTS PAPER MILL COSTS UP TO $2 A TON Up to now, only about 60% to 80% of the hydrogen peroxide that papermakers use to bleach pulp actually did any bleaching. The balance couldn't be utilized—until PPG research added an inexpensive chemical, acetic anhydride. Now all of the bleach actually bleaches to produce high-brightness pulp at lower cost. Our men check the new process out in the customer's plant . . . or we run pulp through our own laboratory to provide specific information on potential savings. While PPG does not make acetic anhydride, we feel it's only good sense to help customers in all industries save on chemical consumption.
