Effect of Biomass on the Compliance with Emission Limits in Fluidized-Bed Boiler Desulfurization P. Buryan* Department of Gaseous and Solid Fuels and Air Protection, University of Chemistry and Technology Prague Technická 5, 166 28 Praha 6, Czech Republic ABSTRACT: The text presents data from research on the reduction of the adsorption reactivity of calcined limestone used for capturing sulfur dioxide from fluidized-bed boiler flue gases with biomass and brown coal co-combustion. It has been proven that biomass significantly influences this process negatively. A higher consumption of limestone leads to increased emissions of carbon dioxide. Because the mass flow of fluidized particles far exceeds the flue gas mass flow and the heat-exchange surfaces of the boiler are adjusted to the desired heat exchange, the temperature in the combustion chamber of the boiler remains the same, at a value of ca. 850 ± 20 °C. In circulation fluidized-bed boilers, the primary separator of particles from flue gases is placed immediately beyond the combustion chamber. Only particles
