distributions, on the dynamics of their interconversion, and, hence, on the contributions of various conformations to the overall rate constants of ISC are difficult to evaluate. A strong sensitivity of the SOC matrix elements to the geometry in openchain biradicals is predicted by Salem’s first rule2 and is borne out by ab initio calculations.8
