Expansion to meet growing requirements The largest furan chemicals expansion program ever undertaken by The Quaker Oats Company is now underway. It was initiated to back up the growing demands for QO® Furfural, Furfuryl Alcohol, and Tetrahydrofurfuryl Alcohol which are vital to a wide diversity of industrial and commercial applications. Major users are the petroleum, foundry, and chemical and plastics industries, with demands constantly increasing. It is to meet growing demands and to be prepared for broader uses in the future that the Chemicals Division has made these major commitments. 0 0 * Furfural is widely used as a selective solvent in petroleum refining and petrochemical production and as a chemical intermediate. It reacts with phenol to produce thermosetting resins and is a reactive solvent in the production of abrasive grinding wheels.

QO Tetrahydrofurfuryl Alcohol (THFA ) is virtually a universal solvent, and completely miscible with water. It finds use as a dye solvent and driver in textile and leather industries and as a solvent in the production of resins, lacquers, coating materials, cleaners and other products.
