OXYGEN ANALYSIS With General Atomic's ACTIVATION ANALYSIS SERVICE

This improved Serum Protein Meter eliminates the need for sample cells of any kind. The sample, 0.2 ml., is placed directly on the prism. Read ings are referred to the index of re fraction of water. Accurate protein analyses require as little as V 1 0 the time required by chemical methods. Bulletin D-2013. Analysis of materials for oxygen, once a difficult problem, is now one of the many kinds of elemental analyses available on a routine basis with General Atomic's Activation Analysis Service. Rapid, sensitive and accurate, neutron activation analysis does the job on almost any kind of sample with virtually no interference from other elements — and it does not destroy the sample. It is completely inde pendent of the chemical form of the oxygen. Sensitivities to 20 ppm are now available for oxygen analysis, and new techniques now being de veloped at General Atomic should soon bring this down to 1 ppm. At higher levels, accuracies of ± 3 % of the value are obtained. A typical price for such analyses is about $20 per sample. Results can be supplied within one week — or sooner if required. Currently, we are analyzing such materials as beryllium, steel, aluminum, titanium, and organic materials for oxygen. Should you wish to carry out your own determinations of oxygen or other elements, General Atomic can design a complete, and optimum, accelerator facility for you. Visit Us at Booth #102,

ANALYTICAL CHEMISTRY

The Herzog Automatic Distillation Ap paratus, equipped with two distilla tion heaters, follows ASTM specifica tions D86 and D158. Equipped with two read-out systems, a flip of the switch permits a tape to be run giving milliliters of distillate against temper ature at each milliliter interval or at every 5-ml. interval with 1-ml. inter vals during the last 10 ml. The in strument will give final boiling points or dry points where applicable. Schuco Scientific, 2 5 0 West 18th St., New York 1 1 , Ν. Υ. 409
