Cabot, Inc., celebrating its 75th anniversary during 1957, is internationally prominent in the petrochemical industry producing carbon blacks in the greatest volume and widest range of any individual manufacturer in the world. The Cabot Companies also produce other chemical raw materials and petroleum products essential to the manufacture of innumerable products in industries ranging from rubber, ink, paint, and varnish to paper, ceramics, and plastics. Although Boston, Mass., is the admini strative home office of the company, production facilities are centered in Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Illinois, and extend to Florida, Massachusetts, New York, West Virginia, and as far as Canada, England, and France.

Cabot Products The major Cabot products include: Carbon Black (a fine fluffy carbon), Oil and Gas Production, Liquefied Petroleum Gases, CAB-O-SIL (a silicon dioxide), Pine Tars, Charcoal, Charcoal Briquets, Wollastonite (a calcium metasilicate), Well Drilling and Servicing Equipment, Oil Field Pumping Equipment, Steel Fabrication, and Plastics Chemicals.

Research And Development Research and Development Headquarters located on famed "Research Row" in Cambridge, Mass., and the Southwestern Laboratory in Pampa, Tex., are engaged in customer technical service, the study of the behavior of Cabot products in their varied applications, and new product research and development. Each laboratory is also equipped with Pilot Plant facilities where new processes are developed prior to operation on a commercial scale . The Cambridge laboratory conducts the major portion of t h e company's fundamental scientific research, the vigorous pursuit of which is the pacemaker of Cabot progress. Plant Operations The very nature of Cabot products and processes requires constant production supervision and management by Chemists, Chemical and Mechanical Engineers and other specialists to analyze process details, to increase yield and efficiency, to plan improvements and to maintain plant and equipment. Since most Cabot plants are concentrated in the Southwest there are more opportunities in plant operations in Texas, Louisiana, and Oklahoma with occasional openings in Illinois, Florida, and New York.
