Inexpensive Spot Plate .

Inexpensive disposable spot plates can be made in large numbers for class use by cutting 4-in. wide Parafilm into 5-in. pieces, laying each piece over a porcelain spot plate, and pressing with the fingers to farm twelve depressions in the Parafilm corresponding to those in the porcelain plate. Use care not to cut the Parafilm with the fingernails. Remove the translucent spot plate and place it on a dark or light surface, depending on the colors of the solutions or precipitates to be observed. These spot plates are easily rinsed for re-use, as the test solutions do not cling to the surface.
