CD-ROM: Abstract of JCE: CD 1996 Journal of Chemical Education on CD-ROM, September–December 1996 The Journal of Chemical Education on CD-ROM contains the text and graphics for all the articles, features, and reviews published in the Journal of Chemical Education. This CD is the first in an annual series. It contains the September–December issues of the 1996 volume. Future CDs in this series will be published at the beginning of each year. Each will contain all of the issues printed during the preceding year. Journal of Chemical Education on CD-ROM is formatted so that all figures and tables in articles printed from the CD retain their original appearance. All pages of the Journal that contain editorial content, including the front covers, tables of contents, letters, and reviews, are included. Where available, color graphics have been substituted for the black and white or grayscale versions that were used in the printed Journal. Text in JCE: CD is fully searchable for any word, partial word, or phrase. Successful searches produce a listing of articles that contain the requested text. Individual articles can be quickly accessed from this list. The Table of Contents of each issue is linked to the articles so that a single mouse click takes you to the article. Where possible, citations within articles of other articles on the CD are also linked so that a single mouse click jumps to the cited article.

Using This Issue The Journal of Chemical Education on CD-ROM will be a useful tool for chemical educators. Like the Computerized Index to the Journal of Chemical Education (1) it will help you to locate articles on a particular topic or written by a particular author. In addition, having the complete articles on the CD-ROM provides added convenience. It is no longer necessary to go the library, locate the Journal issue, and read it while sitting in an uncomfortable chair. With a few clicks of the mouse you can scan an article on your computer monitor, print it, if it proves interesting, and read it in any setting you choose.

Special Trial Offer This 1996 CD is a prototype to generate feedback to help us design future CDs that will contain an entire year’s material. It includes a questionnaire asking your opinion on various features of the CD, how you used it, and how you would like to use it in the future. Registered owners of JCE: CD 1996 who complete and return this form to JCE: Software by April 21, 1997 will receive a $10 certificate that may be applied to the purchase of JCE:CD 1997. Hardware and Software Requirements For both platforms: At least 8 MB RAM; Hard disk drive; A color monitor; A CD-ROM drive with associated driver software. Macintosh requirements: An Apple Macintosh computer with 68020 or higher processor, or Power Macintosh; System 7.0 or higher. Windows requirements: A Microsoft Windows compatible computer with 80386 or higher processor; Microsoft Windows version 3.1 or later.
