Analysis of the product by GC showed that the hydroizenolvsis was essentiallv comdete. A peak with a retention time of 3.8 min was present, corr6pondi'ngto a-phenylethyl alcohol (2a). but the peak corresponding to the retention time of 2f (5.9 min) was absent.
