Chalampe, France NEW! Largest of 5 plants to utilize Scientific Design's novel, high selectivity air oxidation process —89 million pounds per year of cyclohexanol-cyclohexanone from cyclohexane—license, design and construction by SD and SD Group.
Monsanto Chemicals (Australia) Ltd., West Footscray, Victoria Phenol from benzene or cyclohexane—license and design by SD.
SD's revolutionary improvement in cyclohexane oxidation is the result of many years of research and development work by SD in the field of liquid phase oxidation. The advantages of the SD process include not only a very substantially higher yield of adipic acid precursors (mainly cyclohexanol and cyclohexanone), but also a many-fold reduction in oxidation byproducts, resulting in greater ease of product purification and substantial reduction in byproduct disposal costs.
