Only@JCE Online We publish a lot in print every month, but there is even more available Only@JCE Online. Only@JCE Online is our new name for an expanded JCE Internet, the part of JCE Online that is exclusively Internet based. As you probably know, the Journal of Chemical Education publishes this monthly print Journal, distributes computer software and video via JCE Software, and maintains a WWW presence via JCE Online. JCE Online includes the entire editorial content of the print Journal; information about all JCE Software publications; contributor information for authors, reviewers and editors; subscriber and customer support information; and many resources that are only available via the Internet. This column is devoted to those resources that you can find Only@JCE Online. What Is New: JCE Forums Discussion forums represent a major new addition to JCE Online. A discussion forum is similar to an email subscription list (such as CHEMED-L). A forum enables members of the community to share ideas and ask and answer questions, but unlike an email list, a discussion forum does not bombard your In box. You go to the forum to see what new discussion is available. Discussion forums are organized by topic, can be accessed at your convenience using an Internet browser, and, in the case of JCE Forums, are moderated by a forum editor. JCE Forums will be officially opened at the end of August (Fall ACS National Meeting). Initially, we are offering forums for the discussion of •

Only@JCE Online Discussion Forums JCE HS CLIC Buyers Guide Features “Web-Ed” Articles

Visit the JCE Forums (http://jchemed.chem.wisc.edu/cgi-bin/ webx) and give us your input on the organization and proposed content. A special preview forum is open for this purpose (other forums will be read-only until the official opening). Please use this preview period to provide your input.

Moderators Needed On the basis of the subjects you request during this preview period, we plan to develop other forums. To do so we need your help. Each moderated forum requires a host editor. If you have a topic of chemistry education that you would like to see discussed and would be willing to moderate a forum, please use the preview forum to tell us. There are a great many interesting topics for discussion in chemical education. With your help we can provide a forum for each such discussion to be aired. Familiar Features Improved If you are already familiar with JCE Internet, you will find the same features and articles in Only@JCE Online, but with an improved look and implementation. Site navigation now uses text instead of images, and cascading style sheets (CSS) give JCE Online a more consistent look across various computer platforms. These and other changes maintain the overall feel of the site, provide much quicker downloads, and allow us to update the navigational structure and add features more easily.

Updates The JCE High School ChemEd Learning Information Center (CLIC) and Buyers Guide continue to be updated with each issue of the print Journal. Every month, links to articles of interest to high school teachers are added to CLIC. Links to all new book and media reviews are added to the Buyers Guide. Additions to the Biographical Snapshots of Famous Women and Minority Chemists (March 2001) and the updated WWW Site Review feature (July 2001) have been previously noted in this column. The Conceptual Questions and Challenge Problems feature has a useful, new tool, Chemical Concepts Inventory, that can be used to assess the level of chemistry misconceptions held by students.
