For complete information, please request Bulletin A-256. One man and a wrench can remove and replace this new Unitary shaft seal in minutes. (1) Loosen lock ring a t top of seal. MIXER SHAFT IS N O W FREE T O M O V E UP OR DOWN THROUGH SEAL. N e x t , loosen e x t r a l o n g b o l t s in lower f l a n g e of spacer coupling. Shaft drops until collar rests in cup on mixer base flange. The entire weight of lower shaft a n d impellers is supported b y this assembly.
( 2 ) Remove bolts a n d pull out spacer, thrust plate a n d half coupling from top of mixer shaft. Unbolt and remove top of lower b e a r i n g housing. Loosen b e a r ing lock nut, remove b e a r i n g components and lower half of housing. Note that a b s o l u t e l y no l i f t i n g equipment is n e e d e d .

Remove mechanical seal assembly by s i m p l y s l i d i n g it u p mixer shaft a n d out t h r o u g h o p e n i n g in reducer support stand. Replace with a spare seal assembly a n d ship the old seal to us for maintenance.
