Pollution Control at a Profit
The model pictured above is a UCAR residue disposal and recovery system which converts chlorinated hydrocarbon wastes into anhydrous HCl —a moneymaking solution to a difficult disposal problem. Systems are in operation in which 4000 lbs. per hour of chlorinated organic residues are burned and converted to anhydrous hydrogen chloride. Other completely designed and engineered systems include falling film 6 C&EN
chlorination, HCl purification, HCl production (combustion-absorption), anhydrous hydrogen chloride and catalyst activation.
