Staff/Senior Scientist: Analytical Methods Development (Requisition # 0505367) We have an immediate opening for a Methods Development Chemist. The incumbent will be part of a multi-site Analytical R&D group supporting development projects throughout Cordis. The Wadsworth Center is seeking a highly qualified and experienced scientist to develop technical protocols for administering the accreditation of environmental laboratories. The Environmental Laboratory Approval Program (ELAP) accredits approximately 700 commercial and governmental laboratories. Accreditation decisions are based on the technical competence of the laboratory personnel, the laboratory's quality system, and successful participation in a recognized proficiency-testing program. The Assistant Technical Director will assume responsibility for development and maintenance of quality assurance procedures in both the ELAP technical management system and the ELAP proficiency-testing (PT) laboratory that manufactures and distributes more than 20,000 PT samples annually to the accredited laboratories. Duties will also include assistance in the coordination of ELAP staff conducting on-site assessments of laboratories. The incumbent will be encouraged to collaborate with personnel from other government agencies and the private sector in the development of national standards for laboratory accreditation. Applicants should possess the following qualifications: bachelor's degree in the chemical, biological or physical sciences and at least four years professional experience as a supervisor in an environmental laboratory, including experience in the development of a quality improvement program, or a master's degree and three years of such experience, or a doctorate and one year of such experience.
