Editorial Revision of Purity Criteria for Tested Compounds The Journal of Medicinal Chemistry continues to be the leading primary research publication for the field. We are constantly striving to enhance and streamline the publication process for our authors. We also continue to monitor industry practices and revise our journal guidelines accordingly. In the past we have required that the purity of all tested compounds should be not less than 98% and that documentation be provided as evidence of purity. The revised requirement states that tested compounds, whether synthesized or purchased, should possess a purity of not less than 95%. All scientifically established methods (e.g., HPLC, combustion analysis) of establishing purity are acceptable. The specific analytical method used to determine purity should be included in the general part of the experimental section together with a statement confirming g95% purity. No documentation for purity is required in the manuscript. It should be noted that spectral data will not be accepted as a criterion of purity. When the purity of a particular compound is less than 95%, the percent of purity should be specified at the end of the description of its synthesis in the experimental section. Authors should consult the Guidelines for Authors (http://pubs.acs.org/page/jmcmar/submission/index.html) for details. We welcome your manuscript submissions for publication in the journal.
